coun·ter

/ˈkoun(t)ər/

the white space enclosed by or surrounding letter forms.

Counters are subtle yet important pieces of information that help our brains recognize familiar visual elements in letters, logos, and beyond. We often don't realize this information is important until it is presented in a manner that we are unused to seeing.

In designing the way we use type and simple recognizable forms, we must consider the spaces around and inside of what we create. When we do this, we are able to excite and stimulate the mind in ways that are fresh and striking.

By rolling over the image juxtapositions the pure abstractions can be revealed.
